Gravity Falls (Season 1 and 2) series review : Genius

Gravity falls is a mystery, action, adventure story about two sibilings who spend their summer with their uncle in Gravity Falls, Oregon I recently concluded watching Gravity Falls and it's one of the smartest, funniest and heartfelt shows I have ever watched, so let's talk about what makes this show so amazing Story: The story is one of the most tightly written stories I have ever seen, this shows follows a linear structure due to which the events of previous episodes affect the next episodes and unlike some other shows where the event of last episodes rarely affect the current/coming episodes(e.g Kick Buttowski, Phineas And Ferb) due to which it compels the viewer to watch every episode. The characters are very well written and have genuine emotions which makes them different from the usual one-dimensional cartoon characters, every character has a certain exaggerated emotion that comes into play every few episodes due to which makes every character feel important and their ...

Why Marvel works/will keep working: A Case Study

Marvel dropped a clip which "celebrates the movies" and showed us some clips/title announcement for phase 4 and I wanted to look at why Marvel Studios hasn't had an outright bad film for the past 13 years along with being the most successful franchise(grossing more than 20 billion dollars worldwide). Now, I have been very critical of Marvel in my previous blogs and that was because of how formulaic Marvel had become with the same characters and story structure, it was a breath of fresh air to see some awesome projects in the near future 1. Marvel has a plan/ Kevin Feige: One of the most important reasons that Marvel works is that they have a unified vision, Kevin Feige is the brain behind every project. I'm not saying that Kevin looks at every project with a magnifying glass but it is only because of him that Marvel has had a uniform vision for the past 13 years, unlike DC whose movies are run by studio executives and cash-grabbing officials. 2. Marvel cares for its c...

The Adventures Of Tintin Movie Review: It's fun(Non-Spoiler)

Tintin is considered to be one of the most famous European figures of the 20th century, the comics were written by Herge and followed the chronicles of Tintin around the globe who was joined by his trusty dog Snowy, Captain Archibald Haddock and two police officers Thomson and Thompson(They were identical). Tintin is the type of comic that can be enjoyed by any person of any age, the comic doesn't go over-the-top, it's a simple story written greatly. After this brief overview let's jump right into the movie The movie has everything that you would want from a Tintin movie it has a mystery, a solid dose of comedy, I think that Steven Spielberg was able to adapt more than 3 comics quite nicely and faithfully. The motion capture is great, it may fall into the uncanny valley in some scenes, though I don't mind it, the voice-acting is simply great. After watching the movie I imagine the voice of Tintin as that of Jamie Bell, Andy Serkis is the MVP of the film who perfectly vo...

Ranking every Avengers movie

MCU has done the impossible, it has successfully made 23 movies out of which only 3 are bad critically(namely Iron Man 2, Thor: The Dark World, Captain Marvel) but all are commercially successful making about 25 Billion Dollars at the box office making it the world' biggest franchise, let's see how their team up stories rank, and it's simply my list 4. Avengers I don't like Avengers' humor at all and the reason for it is because I never felt that our heroes were gonna die, even if Tony went to space and was about to lose all I KNEW that he will be just fine. The costumes are not that great and doesn't look realistic. This movie looks like a movie and not something that could happen in real life. The story is very simple with no proper conflict(except for that silly argument where everything was resolved once a bomb went off). Action looks very sloppy with unnecessary focus on other characters. Joss Whedon did a terrible job, though Tom Hiddleston is great at L...

Ranking Every Harry Potter Movie: Non-Spoiler

Today I'll be ranking down every Harry Potter movie that was released excluding the "Fantastic Beasts" franchise(I'll make a separate blog once it's planned 5 movies are released or I'll update this blog). Let's jump into it. I'll be ranking these movies on it's face value and try not compare it with the books since in my opinion you cannot imitate a book on it's entirety as you need to sacrifice/change some content so as to balance the run-time but I will compare the films with the books with the movies when deemed necessary. This is simply my list and you may write down your list in the comment section. I'll be giving 2 scores for every movie, one when compared to book and other score as simply a movie in a franchise 8. Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince This is the worst movie in the franchise because it is so not faithful to the books and I can ignore some of the liberties in screenplay writing when it doesn't affect the broader...

The Complete Adventures Of Feluda Vol. 1 and 2: Book Review

The world knows that Satyajit Ray is one of the best directors this movie industry has ever put, but what many people wouldn't know is the fact that he was a great writer and one of his best selling books were of the adventures of Pradosh C. Mitter fondly known as Feluda. There are some similarities between Sherlock Holmes and Feluda, like they both have a trusty side-kick with themselves, Sherlock has Watson and Felda has Tapesh(fondly known as Topshe, though we always see our characters addressed as Feluda and Topshe). Since Feluda's adventures are targeted towards a younger audience(There's no denying that any crime/mystery/adventure book lover will EASILY enjoy this series) that gives it an slight edge over Watson since we see the stories from Topesh's point of view who is a teen which makes the story much more relatable to it's targeted audience(which is me) Adventures Of Feluda Vol. 1 and 2 gives us a great graph on how Feluda improves as a sleuth and how he b...

Ranking every Mission Impossible film

Mission Impossible is the rare case of a franchise which has no bad film over the course of six films, the franchise has been running for over 25 years and doesn't seem to be stopping any time soon and all of this is possible due to brilliant team behind the scenes and the dedication of Tom Cruise that no one in the industry possesses. That is why I'll ranking every Mission Impossible film to this date. 5. Mission Impossible II I mean, we all see it coming. Mission Impossible II is mostly considered to be the worst in the franchise, but does that mean it's a bad film...NO. Mission Impossible franchise has set such high standards for film-making that even their worst film is quite watchable, Mission Impossible II can be considered a pretty average movie with decent plot and some great Hong-Kong'ey' action due to the film being directed by John-Woo. You can easily watch this film one-time and be content with what you were shown since this film contains some beautifu...

2001: A Space Odyssey is PERFECT

I watched 2001: A Space Odyssey and the movie-watching experience was ethereal, this is the type of film whose praise no words can match but I'll try my level best to explain the beauty of this film. So let's begin 1. Direction: This was my first time watching Stanley Kubrick's work(His other iconic films were R-Rated and the televised version severely undercut Kubrick's genius) and I wasn't disappointed. The director follows the "Direction Rule 101" of "Show Not Tell". The film tells the crux of the story in the first 30 minutes with NO DIALOGUE. And it's truly shocking how accurate this movie is in depicting what space-travel would look like(And just a little information, that this film was released in 1968 and man actually landed on Moon in 1969, yet this films follows every space there is). The movie is about 2 Hours 30 Minutes long but there's only about 40 minutes of dialogue, yet the film never ceased to amaze me on how beautiful...

DC Week: Batman V Superman(Spoiler)

This movie is like wine, the more it ages the better it gets and I will be explaining why this movie is great and why critics are wrong on this one and why it's one of the most polarizing film of the last decade: 1. The Core Of This Film: Many people were surprised on how many times batman killed people through it's run-time, well I'm here to tell you that this isn't the first time it has happened. Nolan's Batman, Tim Burton's Batman, The Comics...all have shown Batman killing people so and Zack even does it in style with action being of same aesthetic to that of Arkham Games, and we have to understand that this batman is on a singular mission of killing Superman for the past 18 months while bearing the horrors of Joker killing Robin, burning down Wayne Manor, weighing down every day for his loss of parents, basically he has become his own doom and the Bat has taken over Bruce Wayne. SO BATMAN KILLING IN THIS MOVIE IS FINE WITH ME. Another point that many peop...

Why I didn't truly enjoy Avengers: Endgame

Avengers: Endgame truly feels like the culminated ending of past 23 movies and you get true pay-offs if you are a MCU fan, but story-wise this film is just bad because the film contradicts itself every now and then. I can take plot-holes quite easily if they come up after I have watched the film, but Endgame ruined my experience while I was watching the film Before I reveal my issues with the film I just want to clarify that I am a huge MCU fan(I have watched all of their movies along with X-Men and all the Spider-Man Iterations.) Plot-Holes 1. The ancient-one tells Bruce Banner that if we take one stone out of the equation then that could lead to catastrophic outcomes, but at the first 20-30 minutes Thanos destroys all 6 infinity stones and all we get is a burst of Energy(Not even harmful radiation just Energy burst) 2. Why did Natasha have to die? because soul stone requires supreme sacrifice but Natasha and Clint went together and they simply owe themselves a debt and it's just ...

DC Week: Man Of Steel(Non-Spoiler)

As we got the final release date for Zack Snyder's Justice League (20 March 2021) I thought it would be fun to revisit this polarizing universe of DC(Also called "Worlds Of DC / DCEU") once again and share my views with you.   Man Of Steel is still one of the better film to come out of DCEU. So let's talk about it 1...Story: It's pretty great, it brilliantly transports 80 year old Superman to the 21st century. I personally feel like this is one of the most real take on a superhero based on 21st century. I also applaud Zack for not taking out Clark's back-story and give it ample amount of time. I still don't like the decision to not show Lois' journalistic skills but I can easily leave that out. Overall a nicely written script, but let's talk about it's execution 2...Direction: Again, it's good but not perfect. You do get those signature Zack style with that hand-held cam feel with snap-zoom used a ton of times during the final battle which ...

AND THEN THERE WERE NONE: Genius: Book Review(Non-Spoiler)

Agatha Christie is a genius writer, If you are an ardent crime novel fan then you know what I'm talking about. To those of you who don't know Agatha Christie is the Queen of crime novels, she is widely remembered for the creating of Belgian 'Egg-Shaped Head' detective Hercule Poirot. This novels is based on an island where 10 people are alone, all of them get killed. Yes, that's the basic crux of the story, 10 out 10 people die in an island and there was no other person hiding in the island, there was no nuclear blast, all of them were simply killed in cold-blood. Agatha Christie said that it was one of the most difficult novels to write in her entire carrier. This murder-mystery is based on a nursery poem and if you can understand the lyrics of the poem(Ten little soldier boys) then you will be able to understand the way each person is murdered, below is the poem Ten Little Soldier Boys went out to Dine, one choked his little self and then there were nine. Nine  L...

TRAILER THOUGHTS: Raya And The Last Dragon

Finally Disney did something right in a long time, after their lion king remake and some pretty average films, Disney is back with bang with the second trailer for Raya and the last dragon. So let's talk about it. 1. Aesthetic: The movie looks visually stunning, the movie shows us that there are different tribes in their word and you can clearly see how much effort was put into making them as much differentiable as possible and the scenery with it's long takes and wide shots looks beautiful, kudos to Disney for creating such a beautiful world for us 2. Action: The action by the looks of the trailer feels jam-packed. You have got sword fighting, stick fighting, dragons(It's in the title) and much more, seems like the movie is going to be bamboozled with fight scenes. 3. Comedy: Disney has always made films that can be enjoyed by every age group and this film looks no different, I am skeptical on how they are going to use the dragon because by the looks of the trailer it feel...

Trailer Thoughts: Godzilla VS Kong

It looks awesome. We finally got the trailer for Godzilla VS Kong and it does not disappoint us. The movie starts with a bang with getting into the action straight away, the key points to takeaway from this trailer are 1. Kong has grown in size since his last movie Kong: Skull Island (Possibly due to radiation at hollow earth). 2. Kong has a weapon with a shape of an axe that looks like a combination of wood from Skull Island and Godzilla's fin from the movie Godzilla(2014) and Godzilla: King of Monsters. 3. Godzilla supported the human to fend off 3-headed dragon King Ghidorah along with the help of Mothra, but in the trailer it is said that Godzilla is hurting people and humans don't know why. So that's a mystery. 4. Monarch and Apex have most probably joined hands by the looks of the trailer, though that's just my speculation but seems unlikely in the movie. 5. Mothra can't be seen anywhere even though it was said in the movie that it lived. So where is it ? 6....

SHIP OF THESEUS: This film deserved more (Non-Spoiler Movie Review)

Ship of Theseus is a 2013 Indian movie, you probably wouldn't have heard of it until now since we all were busy watching Dhoom 3, Aashiqui 2, Krrish 3 and Chennai Express in the same year. But you have a chance now to watch this beautiful film, and believe me...you should watch this film if you like movies dealing on human psychology, human nature and the very idea of mortality The movie is the debut film of Anand Gandhi who received a national award for best film for the same film. The film revolves around the paradox of Ship Of Theseus. The paradox asks us the question that if the parts of a ship are replaced one by one and after some time each part is new does that make a new ship ? if you don't understand it then the film helps you understand the concept in the first 5 minutes. The film follows a structure called multi-linear narrative where three seemingly unconnected stories combine to form perfect sense in the last 15-20 minutes of the film. The first story is about a bl...

TRAILER THOUGHTS: Zack Snyder's Justice League

Yep, it's a reality we are finally getting a the original vision of Zack Snyder for Justice League. To those of you who don't know the story behind Zack Snyder for Justice League, let me tell you. Justice league is the superhero team of DC characters, Zack Snyder had already shot the film in 2017 but due to a personal tragedy had to leave the project, so Warner Brothers(The company who has film rights to DC characters) brought Joss Whedon(Director of Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron) to complete the film and boy did he ruin this film, Joss reshot major scenes and completely changed the ending and tried to make the film a 'light-hearted' which made Batman and Superman feel completely out of space and it made the audience feel like they were in a completely different film, and all of this resulted in making Justice League a major flop at the box office both critically and commercially, so this was the complete history. After the release of the film many people started sp...
