The world knows that Satyajit Ray is one of the best directors this movie industry has ever put, but what many people wouldn't know is the fact that he was a great writer and one of his best selling books were of the adventures of Pradosh C. Mitter fondly known as Feluda. There are some similarities between Sherlock Holmes and Feluda, like they both have a trusty side-kick with themselves, Sherlock has Watson and Felda has Tapesh(fondly known as Topshe, though we always see our characters addressed as Feluda and Topshe). Since Feluda's adventures are targeted towards a younger audience(There's no denying that any crime/mystery/adventure book lover will EASILY enjoy this series) that gives it an slight edge over Watson since we see the stories from Topesh's point of view who is a teen which makes the story much more relatable to it's targeted audience(which is me)
Adventures Of Feluda Vol. 1 and 2 gives us a great graph on how Feluda improves as a sleuth and how he becomes a proper sleuth, as when we first meet him he puts his detective skills just to test his hobby. Another stroke of genius by Satyajit Ray is his storytelling genius, he's able to make you see Darjeeling, Hong-Kong, London, Varanasi, Lucknow, Kathmandu, Mumbai and many more places just by his writing style, you would actually enter the world of our characters as the story unfolds(which can only be competed by J.K Rowling). The story even though targeted for younger audience(since Ray didn't want violence, not until it was necessary nor any illicit love in his books) are surprisingly well-thought, though if I'm being honest the books in Vol. 2 do get a bit predictable and this could be the reason of us following Feluda's Adventures since his first case so I don't completely blame Ray for that. Another reason to love this series is because of Lalmohan Ganguli(fondly known as Jatayu) who provides us with dollops of humor and is most of the time a very integral part of the story. Our trio of Feluda, Topshe and Jatayu is one of the reason what makes this series so engaging. Ray also has a knack for writing action and thrills since you feel every gust of wind, blow and failure that our trio endures and you get a feel of dread the same way as our character as they wait for something to happen. The villains in this series too are great and we do get Feluda's ultimate foe(I won't reveal his name) the same Sherlock Holmes has. Overall this is a must read for the fans of crime/thrill/adventure novels
The only thing which I dislike is the fact that Satyajit Ray stopped writing "Adventures Of Feluda" since I would have loved to keep reading about his adventures forever, another issue is with his Feluda's cases which get a smidge predictable in volume 2 but those are a few stories and I can easily oversee this issue in turn for great action, comedy nad the banter between our golden trio
A solid 9/10....and this isn't unlike other crime novels where you can't read it again after you find out the criminal. I myself have read both volumes 3 times and have enjoyed it every time I have picked it up
