Gravity Falls (Season 1 and 2) series review : Genius

 

Gravity falls is a mystery, action, adventure story about two sibilings who spend their summer with their uncle in Gravity Falls, Oregon
I recently concluded watching Gravity Falls and it's one of the smartest, funniest and heartfelt shows I have ever watched, so let's talk about what makes this show so amazing

Story: The story is one of the most tightly written stories I have ever seen, this shows follows a linear structure due to which the events of previous episodes affect the next episodes and unlike some other shows where the event of last episodes rarely affect the current/coming episodes(e.g Kick Buttowski, Phineas And Ferb) due to which it compels the viewer to watch every episode. The characters are very well written and have genuine emotions which makes them different from the usual one-dimensional cartoon characters, every character has a certain exaggerated emotion that comes into play every few episodes due to which makes every character feel important and their moments feel earned. The villains are brilliantly written, and the main villain is the darkest villain I have ever seen in any Disney show. By the time show ends you feel for every character which makes the ending all well earned, the show also subverts the expectations by making the sibling have a great bond, unlike other shows where brother and sister are always fighting with each other. The episodes are too sharply written where every mystery seems genuine and spend little to no time wasting getting straight to the point. But like every show, there are 2-3 some episodes that simply aren't that great, but even if the entire episode doesn't work there are always some jokes that would make you chuckle, some side plot in some of the episodes aren't up to the mark as well but I found this kind of issue in 2-3 episodes out of 41 total episodes which shows how great the show overall is(along with it's 8.8/10 IMDB score)

Screenplay: The dialogues of this show are hilarious, you would find plenty of quotable moments throughout the show with my personal favourite being:

1. "Universe is a hologram, reality is an illusion, buy gold.....BYEE!!"

2. "When there are no cops around, anything's legal"
3. "You know studies show that keeping a ladder in the house is more dangerous than a loaded gun. That's why I own 10 guns, in case some maniac tries to sneak in with a ladder"
4. "My ex-wife still misses me but her aim is getting better"
5. "Sometimes a man has to steal an animatronic racoon to stay in this crazy game called life"

Along with the comedic moments, there are plenty of dialogues about life that seem pretty heavy considering the premise of the show along with much emotional dialogue which does hit no matter what the situation is, hats off to the screenwriters of the show.

The voice-acting too is amazing considering the fact that two of the main character of the show are voiced by the creator of the show Alex Hirch himself(Grunkle Stan and Soos)

Another reward of watching till the end of every episode is the fact that you get a puzzle at the end of each episode which can reveal the twist of the next few episodes along with many easter eggs in the opening theme as well which can reveal some of the villain/monsters of coming episodes 

The final episode is one of the best endings to a show I've ever seen which truly makes you emotional because of how well the show is constructed and how much you care about the characters by the end of the show which truly makes you feel that the show should never end
