So I was finally able to watch Knives Out and boy did I love it, It has been a long time since I watched an original murder-mystery who dun nit type of movie. So let's talk about it.
Our story revolves around the 'Suicide' of a crime novel writer Harlan Thrombey. Now is it a suicide or murder or a mistake...I don't know because everyone in his family has a motive to murder Him.
The main strengths of the movie
1.crisp screenplay as the film never deviates from it's story and keeps the dialogues funny, to the point and exhilarating.
2.brilliant acting as every actor/actress plays his/her character with sheer perfection
3.phenomenal editing with brilliant cinematography by Steve Yedlin who does a perfect job of creating the right atmosphere for a murder-mystery.
4.The Ending and Final act: I won't spoil it for you but this movie's final act feels like a Agatha Christie novel brought to life. The final act is tense, funny, confusing. It gives a perfect call back to the first act of the film. The Ending too gives a brilliant call back to the very first shot of the film
The key weak point for me was Rian Johnson's writing because if you pay close attention it was too easy to find the murderer but Rian Johnson makes up for this by adding some real twists that makes the movie even more engaging added is the fact that Rian's writing changes genre two times throughout the course of the film and this makes you feel whether the person you thought was a murderer could be innocent, His finesse can be seen in direction as well as the movie never feels static for even a second....Overall if you want a fun, exciting and a brilliant murder-mystery film, this movie's your bet
INDIVISUAL RATINGS:
Story:- 8.5/10 (Only issue was I found the murderer, but not his exact motive though so deserves this 8.5)
Direction:- 9.5/10 (A very engaging and fun ride)
Acting:- 10/10 (The actors are the one who makes this film wholesome, kudos to Chris Evan for shedding his Cap image with Daniel Craig's perfectly exaggerated southern accent)
Editing and production:- 9/10 (Gives a real eerie feeling with a constant feeling of threat around us, has some of the brilliant props design I have seen in quite some time)
OVERALL RATING :
So overall, this films gets a solid 9/10
